Dolomite cliff. The walls of Sagawau Canyon, Cook County’s only canyon, support many interesting species of liverworts, ferns and other life.

Bluff. The forested bluffs along the Des Plaines River Valley were carved out by ancient floodwaters.

Ravine. These habitats favor species that need a sheltered, often cooler and wetter environment.
