Conservation Rules and Policies

Many people use their Forest Preserves for a tremendous variety of activities, and inevitably conflicts sometimes arise. To alleviate conflicts and to fulfill the primary mission of protecting our resources, the district establishes rules for acceptable use. A cornerstone of District policy prohibits collecting of natural materials, particularly growing plants and wildflowers, unless specifically permitted by code.

Bicycle and equestrian riders are restricted to designated trails, and motorized vehicles are prohibited.

For safety, preserves are closed at dusk. Additional rules may apply at Nature Centers and designated nature preserves.
