Bird Conservation Success Story

Poplar Creek Equestrian Parking, Streamwood

Schaumburg Road Grasslands is a scenic mosaic of grasslands, oak/hickory woodlands and shrubland. It is a large ecological restoration project whose number one priority is grassland birds. In fact the population of 3 of its grassland birds, Eastern Meadowlarks, Henslow’s Sparrows and Bobolinks, has expanded rapidly since its inception 8 years ago. Joins steward and bird monitors Steve and Jill Flexman and Jenny Vogt, and FPCC Deputy Director of Conservation Chip O’Leary, whose research study helped to inspire the plan. This is a joint project of the Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards and the Forest Preserves of Cook County. Meet at the small gravel parking lot on the north side of Schaumburg Road, 1/2 mile west of Route 59 in Streamwood.

Cost: Free
