Camping

 

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County operates overnight camping facilities for properly supervised youth organizations of either boys or girls at Camp Sullivan, Alphonse and Glenview. The District issues Day Camp Permits to Organized Youth Organizations wishing to utilize District property on per day use. Click here for more information!

 

Snowmobiling

 

Snowmobiling is allowed at 5 designated locations in Cook County. Snowmobiles must be registered with both the State of Illinois and the Forest Preserve District (proof of insurance is required). Information on District registration can be obtained by contacting our General Headquarters. Snowmobile areas are opened when a minimum 4 inch snow base exists on frozen turf.

 

All snowmobiles must be properly registered with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. An annual charge of $25.00 for Cook County residents and $50.00 for non-residents will be assessed for each snowmobile. The District sticker shall be affixed to each registered snowmobile.

 

You may register at the Forest Preserve District of Cook County’s General Headquarters, 536 N. Harlem Avenue, River Forest, IL, between the hours or 9:00AM and 4:00PM, Monday through Friday or at one of the following District Divisions, during the hours of 7:00AM and 2:30PM, Monday through Sunday.

Off-Leash Dog Area

 

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County provides the Beck Lake Dog-Friendly Area for visitors to unleash their dogs. This is currently the ONLY location within the District’s holdings where dogs may be unleashed. Dog owners wishing to enter the Beck Lake Dog Friendly Area MUST procure a permit for the location. Equestrian

 

Enjoy horseback riding on the District’s multi-use trail system. Ride your own horse or go on a guided tour from any of eight stables offering livery service. Horse registration and/or riders license required. Horse registration can be obtained by visiting the Forest Preserve District Headquarters in River Forest, Illinois, located at 536 N. Harlem Avenue, between the hours or 9:00AM and 4:00PM, Monday through Friday. Registration can also be obtained through the mail, or by calling 708-771-1070.
