About Nature Conservation

The Forest Preserve Enabling Act of 1913, charged the district to “... restore, restock, protect and preserve... said lands together with their flora and fauna... for the education, pleasure, and recreation of the public.” The Resource Management Department fulfills that mission through educational and management activities, including a wide variety of educational programs through its Nature Centers and Environmental Education Center, oversees vegetation management and restoration, operates recreational fisheries and wildlife management programs, and provides resources for schools, volunteers, community groups and many others.
