President Preckwinkle Presents 2021 Budget Recommendation

Forest Preserves of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle introduced the 2021 Budget Recommendation to the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners on October 20, 2020.

The Forest Preserves of Cook County total budget request for all funds for FY 2021 is $134 million, an increase of $9.5 million, or 7.6%, over FY 2020. Revenues to support this increase include property taxes totaling $97.3 million, non-tax revenues totaling $7.1 million and reserves totaling $22.4 million.

The Corporate budget request, which funds the day-to-day operations of the Forest Preserves, is $62.2 million, a decrease of $1.3 million or 1.9% from last year. Increases of $4.5 million to the Real Estate Acquisition Fund, $3 million to the Capital Improvement Fund and $3.5 million to the Self Insurance Fund are also requested in the FY 2021 budget.

The proposed budget for 2021 reflects the fiscal discipline and careful budgeting in years past that has produced a healthy reserve fund that allows the Forest Preserves of Cook County to mitigate the loss of revenue and other impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
