Party for the Preserves: An Evening at the Campgrounds

Registration Required:
Email experience.camping@cookcountyil.gov. Check in at the welcome tent upon arrival to pick up event wristbands and sign up for timed activities.

Camping 101 Demos (6 – 7:30pm)
Learn about different tent styles, camp clothing, sleeping gear and fire building.

Self-Guided Interpretive Color Hike & SOLO Litter Pick-up (6 – 7:30pm)
Learn about Camp Bullfrog Lake and Palos Preserve at different stops along the trail while participating in Select Organized Litter Obliterators (SOLO) and picking up any trash along the way.

Crayfish Trapping Demo (6 pm)
Learn how crayfish traps are set and the role crayfish play in our ecosystems.

Guided Night Hikes (7:15 & 8pm)
Check out the trails after dark with experienced staff and see what stars and nocturnal wildlife you can find. Sign-up for a spot at the welcome table.

S’mores Making (7:30 – 9pm)
Participate in one of our camping programs and receive an individual s’more kit to make a s’more over the campfire. Quantities limited.

About Party for the Preserves

Enjoy a number of self-guided activities and guided programs on September 26 from 9am to 9pm at various Forest Preserves locations to celebrate National Public Lands Day. See all Party for the Preserves events.

All participants are required to wear masks and practice physical distancing. The number of participants may be capped for activities to allow for physical distancing.
