Sand Ridge Heritage Day

Description:

Celebrate the rich heritage of the Calumet region. On this day, we will collaborate with various partner organizations that host a diverse range of activities, from brick-making to upholstery and offer engaging presentations and guided hikes. The scheduled presentations include:

  • 10:30 am: “Calumet Voices Exhibit” by the Field Museum
  • 11:30 am: “Dawn of the Calumet Region” by the U of C Fossil Lab
  • 1:30 pm: “Underground Railroad Connection” by the Little Calumet River UGRR Project

Join Chef Walks First for a cooking demonstration: Help us prepare an indigenous stew over the fire from 10 am to noon, and then indulge in a feast!

Archaeologists will be present to identify Native American artifacts and objects, such as fossils, animal bones and rock specimens. Visitors are encouraged to bring in items for identification.

Don’t forget to bring your stories and copies of pictures you’d like to share of yourself at the Sand Ridge Nature Center.
