The skies over Cook County are filled with millions of birds every fall as they fly south for the winter.

Visiting the Forest Preserves of Cook County can give you a prime spot to see the migratory birds during their journey. Cook County is located along the Mississippi Flyway, a route that connects Canada and the United States to locations in Mexico, Central and South America.

Forest Preserves locations like Eggers Grove, offer visitors the chance to spot hundreds of different species as they migrate. Birders may even have the chance to view previous rare finds like the brown pelican or the sharp-tailed sandpiper, which typically flies between Siberia and Australia.
