Camp Shabbona Woods features small three-season cabins, mulch tent pads and a clearing for activities. Sand Ridge Nature Center is just a short stroll away through an oak woodland. Camp staff help coordinate activities and programming at the campsite.

Tent Campsite

Capacity: 6 people | Availability: 16 sites

Surrounded by nature, tent sites include a tent pad with timber edge, picnic table and fire ring with grate. Tent pad accommodates a 10′ x 10′ tent, which sleeps six. (Tent not included; tents available for rental or purchase.) Most tent sites require campers to park in the main lot and hike in a short distance.

Small Cabin

A simple three-season (spring through fall) cabin that accommodates eight people on bunk beds. Includes ceiling fan and porch, as well as picnic table and fire ring with grate.

Programs

Every weekend during peak season (April through October), Forest Preserves staff lead free programs open to all registered campers, including:

  • Friday and Saturday night campfires
  • Special Friday and Saturday evening programs
  • Saturday afternoon activities and hikes
  • Camping skill demonstrations

We also offer regularly scheduled programs including Camping 101 workshops, staff-led Family Campouts and even a comprehensive Camping Leadership Immersion Course (CLIC) for leaders of organized groups. Read more about our camping programs here.

Each campground will also have a limited number of Camping Adventure Backpacks available for free check-out, that include binoculars, field guides, a compass, activity sheets and other aids to nature exploration.
