Off-Leash Dog Areas Closed Until May 5 Due to Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD)
In order to prevent potential exposure and spread of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD) including Canine Influenza (CIV) the Forest Preserves of Cook County is closing Off-Leash Dog Areas starting Friday, April 17, 2015 through Monday, May 4, 2015.
This is a preventative measure and not due to any known transmittance of the virus at these locations. For the health of your pets, we request dogs re-entering the Off-Leash Dog Areas starting Tuesday, May 5th be vaccinated against:
- Parvo Virus
Unvaccinated animals enter at your own risk. Permit holders will have their permits extended for two weeks due to this temporary closure. Contact us at 1-800-870-3666, option #2 for more information. Click here for more information about CIRD and CIV.
Large open spaces allow your dog to run, fetch and play uninhibited and unrestrained.
The Forest Preserves of Cook County currently operates the Beck Lake and Bremen Grove Off-Leash Dog Areas for visitors to let their dogs enjoy the preserves without a leash. Please note that these are the only locations within the Forest Preserves where off-leash dogs are allowed.

Registration & Rates
Dog owners wishing to enter the Beck Lake or Bremen Grove Off-Leash Dog Areas must first purchase an annual membership. The annual membership includes one membership card and one key to enter any of the Forest Preserves’ Off-Leash Dog Areas. Annual memberships are valid from October 1 through September 30 of the following year.

In addition to an application, all dog owners are required to submit a Veterinarian Health Report (download PDF). A membership card and key will be mailed to the address you provide only after this report has been approved. Please allow up to two weeks processing time from receipt of the application and report. Dog owners can apply for an annual membership in the following ways:

If you need memberships for more than three dogs, please submit your requests via email or fax. Please choose your preferred location when applying, but note that memberships give you access to all dog areas.

The permit desk is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Please allow up to two weeks processing time. Please choose your preferred location when applying, but note that memberships give you access to all dog areas.
