While the recent colder weather may push some of us indoors, the Forest Preserves of Cook County continue to offer numerous opportunities to get outside and stay active throughout the season. From traversing our miles and miles of trails to spending time exploring any of our six Nature Centers and camping, residents and visitors will find a variety of ways to enjoy November in the Forest Preserves.

Speaking of camping, did you know that most of the Forest Preserves’ campgrounds are open year-round? Camping is one of the most immersive ways to experience the Forest Preserves, providing residents and visitors the opportunity to spend a night under the stars, listening to wind blow through the trees, birds chirping and more. Our campgrounds will begin accepting reservations for winter camping on November 15.

Another exciting opportunity available at our campgrounds is full site rentals. From weddings and family reunions to corporate retreats and more, these spaces will provide a unique experience for event attendees. Applications are now being accepted for events hosted in 2018. 

In this issue of the Forest Way, readers will learn about a native plant that provides an important wintertime food source of birds and small mammals, as well as a recent recognition for the Cal-Sag Trail. Finally, be sure to check out the list of upcoming events that will be hosted throughout the month for fun, family-friendly opportunities.
