Camp just steps from the water in the heart of the vast, hilly Palos Preserves. Camp Bullfrog Lake offers year-round camping, group activities and water-based recreation such as canoe rentals and fishing. Just around the corner from Maple Lake’s boathouse and the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center, it’s also a perfect launching pad for hiking, mountain biking and birdwatching adventures on Palos’ 50-plus miles of trails.

Tent Campsite

Capacity: 6 people | Availability: 15 sites

Surrounded by nature, tent sites include a tent pad with timber edge, picnic table and fire ring with grate. Tent pad accommodates a 10′ x 10′ tent, which sleeps six. (Tent not included; tents available for rental or purchase.) Most tent sites require campers to park in the main lot and hike in a short distance.

RV/Tent Campsite (With Electricity)

With a 12′ x 24′ gravel parking space and gravel tent pad with timber edge, this site accommodates RVs (maximum 40′) or tent camping, and allows campers to pull their vehicle up to the site. Electric service provided, as well as picnic table and fire ring with grate. RV site does not have a dumping station.

Large Cabin

Capacity: 10 people | Availability: 3 cabins

A heated and air-conditioned year-round cabin for ten people. With bunk beds for eight and a separate room with two single beds, it’s perfect for a small youth group with two adult leaders, a family or a group of friends. Also includes ceiling fans, a private ADA restroom with toilet and shower, a hallway with two sinks, a porch, a picnic table and a fire ring with grate.

Programs

Every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Forest Preserves staff lead free programs open to all registered campers, including:

  • Friday and Saturday night campfires
  • Special Friday and Saturday evening programs
  • Saturday afternoon activities and hikes
  • Camping skill demonstrations

We also offer regularly scheduled programs including Camping 101 workshops, staff-led Family Campouts and even a comprehensive Camping Leadership Immersion Course (CLIC) for leaders of organized groups. Read more about our camping programs here.

Each campground will also have a limited number of Camping Adventure Backpacks available for free check-out, that include binoculars, field guides, a compass, activity sheets and other aids to nature exploration.
